• Real-time reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) is the gold standard method to detect the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes COVID-19 with an accuracy rate of 99%.
• The specimen is swabbed from the nasal cavity and the back of the throat.
• Specimen will be sent to the laboratory to detect the presence of SARS-CoV-2.
• No fasting is required for this test.

Test Procedure

• The specimen is swabbed from the nasal cavity and the back of the throat.
• Specimen will undergo multiple processes in the Molecular Laboratory to amplify and detect genetic material specific to the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
• For positive results, Cycle Threshold (Ct) values will be provided and results will be notified to the relevant authorities. Lower Ct values indicate a higher viral load.
